Lance Bass Fishing -- A Good Summer Sport

The troops are starting to rally about if and when former 'NSync-er Lance Bass is going to come out.

I haven't slept with the guy so I cannot vouch for him one way or the other, but Lance has been spotted in gay hotspots in Provincetown and elsewhere with former 'Amazing Race' star Reichen Lehmkuhl. Perez Hilton has had a field day with this for some time, and now more and more gays are calling for Lance to get with the program.

OutSports jock Cyd Zeigler, who saw Lance and Reichen up close and personal, is one:
"The mainstream press won't touch that one because he hasn't held a press conference at The Abbey to declare he's gay. Blogs and Web sites have been tossing around the rumor for a while, especially with the number of times he's been seen in public with Reichen Lehmkuhl. But, because he hasn't called a press conference, 'upstanding' reporters just won't touch it ... Well, as far as I'm concerned, he's out. He has made a public statement. In Provincetown this past weekend, I saw him with Reichen and some other super-gay friends at the Atlantic House. The A-House is a gay bar. In fact, the last straight person to step foot in there was Anderson Cooper."

Andy Towle over at Towleroad had a similar sighting on his recent P-Town vacation (also good reading):
"And yes, that other alleged power couple Reichen Lehmkuhl and Lance Bass were continually spotted around town. I saw them twice (as did others) at the Atlantic House (A-House) bar. A stroke of serendipity placed them next to me in a line for the men's room where Reichen introduced me to Lance. We had a brief conversation, but I can't confirm or deny the status of their relationship (which some, in the comments to this post, say was a bit rocky). What I can say was that every time I saw Lance he was well-tucked under the shadowy mask of a baseball cap, and Reichen was extremely polite."

Now, the mainstream press has picked up on the hullabaloo in the blogosphere (No Privacy for Lance Bass at the Gay Bar).

So what do you all think? Is it just a matter of time? If Lance parties gay, does that make him fair game?

Let's hear it, leave a comment here.

So if you go to a gay bar, that automatically means you're gay?!? I'm a lesbia, albeit not the most open type, but does that mean if I go to a regular non-gay bar does that make me straight/bii?!?

He's either just checking things out or is a fag stag.

If a celebrity is out at gay clubs with another celebrity, who is known to be gay, and if he refuses to answer questions regarding his own sexuality.....then I say, when you're out, you're out. Lance, you might as well make it official. You've already taken enough steps in that direction  - what are you waiting for to cross the street?

Oh he is ugly anyway.

O my gosh i should have seen this one coming. Now that think of i havent heard of a girlfriend or anything even when Lance was with NSYNC. I would say Reichen is his long time partner. Lance should come out of closet now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What does it matter if he is gay or not.  He has a nice voice and seems to be a nice person.  Let the man live any way he choses as long as he isn't hurting anyone.  I hope that he finds happiness.   Furthermore, just because someone goes to gay establishments and hangs out with someone who is gay it does not mean that the person is themselves gay.  He may be but truthfully it is none of anyone's business but his.

The harrassment of Lance Bass is just wrong. Whether he is or he isn't is of no concern of ours. If gays want to be treated fairly and equally, then why make such a big deal out of an orientation that heteros don't have to publicize?

Leave the guy alone already.

most diffently he is gay to bad

Anonymous said...

Leave him be. If he's gay, that's his kool-aide. stay out of it.

Anonymous said...

If he is gay, let him be. He is a human being. I think gays and lesbians should have the same rights as those in the straight community !!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Sincerely, who cares...if he's gay, he's gay-doesn't cover up the fact he isn't doing anything productive. Good grief, let him gay it up, if he is, in piece.

It a matter of time before Lance comes out. He might as well come out with it. Another celebrity that should come out to is George Clooney hes a mans man if not to say the least. I don't understand why he's dating all these women it must aweful to have to be with them and pretend for a cover up.

Suppose the guy has a gay friend and want to hang out... harassment just makes it all the more difficult for others to come out.... its no ones business but his whatever his preference is ... I have been openly lesbian for more than twenty years and I could care less who thinks what about it... then again that's just me... I have friends and have had partners who could not or would not be so open for fear of public ridicule... like this.

why should it matter if lance is gay? its just another ploy for the papparatizi to have a feild day with him. if hes gay then hes gay if hes not leave it alone, and if he is then when hes ready to come out of the closet then he will.

Anonymous said...

If he is gay it is his responsibility to say so. I don't care what he does in the bedroom but I believe he should be honest about who he is. If he is gay he could do the rest of us a favor by not appearing to be ashamed of it. I understand that it isn't convenient for everyone gay person, but gay people who insist on staying in the closet help to make the world a less tolerant place.

I DON'T THINK THAT WOULD MAKE HIM FAIR GAME SOME PEOPLE DON'T MIND THE FLIRTING BECAUSE YOU CAN BE WELL SECURE WITHIN YOURSELF AND NOT BE AFRAID TO HANG OUT WITH GAY BUDDIES. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WOULD YOU STOP BEING A FRIEND? I THINK WE SHOULD JUST ACCEPT PEOPLE FOR WHO THEY ARE AND STOP TRYING TO TURN EVERY ACCEPTING AND UNDERSTANDING MAN INTO SOMEONE HE MAY NOT BE,

He's good friends with Kathy Griffin, period.  If he is gay it's sad that he hasn't come out by now.

It's stunning to me that the world is speculating about Lance being gay - and that the Blade has chosen to use this as a big story -- who the hell is Lance Bass and why should any of us waste our time over this?

Anonymous said...

Personally I don't care if he is gay or not. It does not take away from the fact that he has an absolutely beautiful voice. He is a good performer and he seems to be a gentleman.  More than I can say for quite a few other performers, gay or straight?

Does it really matter if Lance is gay or not?  Hell no!  However, is it safe to assume that two guys hanging out together at the A-House in P-town are gay? - well maybe, but we have to ask ourselves some questions.  Are we [the gay community] so desperate to have celebrity roled models that we need to jump on every opportunity to out someone?  If we want the Right to stop marginalizing us and making us stereotypes to diminish our human worth - don't we owe it to ourselves as a community to respect each other; our privacy and our right to determine who we want to tell we are gay WHEN we want to announce it?  Does a gay man going to a straight bar make us straight? If we truly want to be treated as equals, don't we have to treat each other with respect - publicly or privately - and admit that equal treatment means equal consideration for all possibilities?   Is it tempting to assume that Lance may be gay by being seen with Reichen on more than one occasion - and in P-town - hell yeah!  But... should we take the high road and let them just enjoy being who they are - where they are - without judgement, envy, or scrutiny - HELL YEAH!!!  Let's be better than others think we are and just let them be who they are - without labels, expectations or a mad desire to force any one to announce something that is their decision to announce.  Why should a pop-singer or a reality show celebrity NOT have the same privledge to just "be"?  C'mon, once we start treating each other with respect, normalcy and compassion, we can set the example - or better yet, demand that we be treated the same.  Lance and Reichen:  Fuck 'em if people want to make 2 + 2 = 6!  Live your lives with no apologies or statements by demand of anyone - straight or gay.  Let's not only be better guys - Let's start setting examples!

I think if he is let him be! why is it such a big issue? He will go further in the closet the more the press hounds him. Its his life and he isnt in the lime light these days so why must everyone be concerned with who he hangs with? Maybe he just has a good gay friend? Let him be happy with who he is not for who everyone wants him to be.

First of all, it's his business.  He might be gay, but I see this as a different issue--one that shines a spotlight on the vast differences between the perceptions of the gay community and the straight world-at-large.

If Lance Bass and Reichen Lehmkuhl were spotted at a straight club, would rumors suddenly fly that Reichen had gone straight?  Of course not!  But as soon as the straight guy sets foot in a gay bar, the mill cranks up.  Why? Because he's gone to "the dark side"--is heterosexuality truly so fragile that straight men are turning gay at the slightest suggestion?  Or are we just that damned fabulous that there's a line forming at the door marked "Gay"?  Somehow I doubt either is true.

I have a lot of straight male friends who have no problem when we go to gay clubs. Let's also remember here that this is PROVINCETOWN, for God's sake!  There are almost no straight clubs--especially in the season!  Everyone hangs out in the same bars and cabarets.  EVERYONE goes to A-House!  I remember the first time I visited back in 1995--walking down Commercial Street I saw gay couples, lesbian couples, straight couples with and without kids.  Young, old, whatever orientation, we all just enjoyed ourselves--in the same clubs, restaurants and hotels.  It struck me as the way the world SHOULD be.  And for all the lousy Bushwacking that we've had to endure, damned if we don't get a little closer every day!

I'll be the first to admit that I think Reichen and Lance would make a damned hot couple, and I'll enjoy it if they are.  But c'mon folks, let's not make such a big damned deal out of this.  Straight guys shouldn't have to be afraid to be seen with gay guys...let's move past it!

Anonymous said...

to each his own.  what people are is their business and if they want you to know it is up to them to tell you.  AND, if your friends are gay does not mean you are.  What you're implying is that only gays are allowed to be with gays, etc.  So I assume us straight fokes should not have gay friends or we will be called gay too?  That's to bad because some people might not want to stay with or go out with their friends for that reason.

Come on!  If he is gay...is it anyones business but his own?  Give me a break!

GREAT COUPLE.  HOPE THEY CAN MAKE IT TOGETHER.  TIME WILL TELL.  EVERYONE DESERVES A GOOD LIFE WITH A PERSON THEY CAN LOVE.  IF THEY COME OUT IN PUBLIC, THAT'S OK, IF NOT THAT'S ALSO OK.  BE HAPPY.

Anonymous said...

Why does it matter?  Why should people care one way or the other?  I don't get it.  Why does a persons sexual preference have to be such a big deal?

Anonymous said...

WHO CARES????IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW, MUCH OF THE "ENTERTAINMENT" WORLD IS GAY!!! WHERE HAS AOL BEEN ALL OF THESE YEARS, GET OVER IT---LET THE GUY LEAD HIS LIFE!

If he is Gay, good for him! If he is not, Good for him! I could care less as I see everyone else could care less either. Lance go on with your life and please do enjoy. I am a grandmother of 4 and I know, you should not waste your life, you should enjoy it. So now you have it. ENJOY YOUR LIFE!!!

gesssh people........really nowdays....who cares.......if he is....well Lance "Welcome Home Buddy".......if he isn't at least he is  not afraid to go out in public with his gay friends and be supportive of them.......It's his business whether he is gay or not.......and he'll come out and tell us when he is ready.....besides its not like he would be dating any of you common "folk"....so what's the big deal????  If he is gay....i just hope that all this early publicity didn't go and scare him so much he stays in the closet forever....be supportive.......isn't it hard enough to deal with without the public eye on you all the time....taking bets on whether you are or not???  Lance, whether you are or not....I support you in everything you do...and be strong....it's your life and happiness at stake, nobody else's....be who you were born to be no matter what....to heck with anyone else has to say or think....be true to yourself........

Party gay doesn't mean you are gay. I go with my buds to straight clubs, and I think it's only fair that I get to haul theor asses to a gay club. They're cool with it 'cause they're cool with me. Whether this gut is gay or not, shouldn't matter. If he is gay he deserves to be quiet about it, if he's straight he deserves to be quiet about it. maybe he just supports his friend, and/or maybe he's just fully out of the closet. Does it matter? Mmmm not at all. Bryan...

I wonder if it's that the media is so desperate or that the public is so ignorant which makes this topic newsworthy. Either way. . . get a life.

WHY DOES HE HAVE TO MAKE ANY SORT OF COMMENT?
Can't he just be allowed to go where he pleases with whom he pleases? Some idiots still maintain that celebreties owe it to everybody else to "come out" if they are gay. Baloney! Let people be themselves and do as they please. Everybody requires and deserves as much privacy as the next guy.

Now who the hell really cares. Let the guy do what the hell he wants, and as long as it doesn't involve YOU, move on to something more important. In this day and age - who really cares who he climbs into bed with! Get with it!

I honestly don't feel comfortable outing people before they are ready to come out.
I think we are eating out own. I don't care if they are celebrities or not. I think everyone needs to come out on their own time. Perez is hilarious sometimes but I feel myself upset at him when he outs people before they are ready.

I think the disservice is done to those of us who are out by people who prefer to hide. Be being ashamed and hiding they let the world believe that there is something to be ashamed of and that keeps the cycle of hated and bigotry going. I do think what goes on behind closed does is private - I don' care who prefers what position, but orientation is another thing.

I think that its not at all uncommon for a STRAIGHT friend to go toa gay bar with gay friends. I know plenty of people who thoroughly enjoy their time at gay bars yet are completely straight.  So that being said, I dont think we can draw any conclusions on Lance's sexuality. Didn't he use to date Topanga from "Boy meets world"? Anyhow, I do however feel he needs to address this gossip meal quickly, one way or another... gay or not!!! Otherwise, he is nearly admitting to it by allowing the rumors to flare!

I had to post this in 2 comments because it was too big, but I just stumbled on to this message board, and I just want to say MORE POWER to Lance.... I am happy that he can finally be who he is, and not have to hide it from anyone...

I am straight, and I am one hundred percent supportive of the gay community. My best friend and roommate is a lesbian, and I could not bear to see her or anyone else unhappy because of simple mindedness, and I could not be happier for Lance.

Lance Bass: I'm Gay
WEDNESDAY JULY 26, 2006 08:30AM EST

Lance Bass, the former 'N Sync heartthrob, reveals that he is gay, in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.

"I knew that I was in this popular band and I had four other guys' careers in my hand, and I knew that if I ever acted on it or even said (that I was gay), it would overpower everything," says Bass, referring to bandmates Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez and Justin Timberlake.

"I didn’t know: Could that be the end of ’N Sync? So I had that weight on me of like, ‘Wow, if I ever let anyone know, it's bad.' So I just never did," he says speaking about his sexual orientation for the first time with PEOPLE.

Now, after years of keeping his personal life private, the Mississippi-bred, Southern Baptist-reared Bass, 27, is publicly revealing what he first shared with his friends, then his shocked family.

"He took years to really think about how he was going to tell everyone," says his close buddy Fatone, 29, who was the first 'N Sync bandmate to find out Bass is gay. "I back him up 100 percent." Adds Bass’s longtime pal, actress Christina Applegate: "I've always accepted him as who he is. It's about his own serenity at this point."

Anonymous said...

Having pursued acting, producing and – most memorably – space flight after ’N Sync went on hiatus in 2002, Bass now is looking ahead to new beginnings. He is in a "very stable" relationship with model-actor-Amazing Race winner Reichen Lehmkuhl, 32, and is developing an Odd Couple-inspired sitcom pilot with Fatone in which his character will be gay.

Mostly, though, he’s just enjoying the relief that comes with the culmination of a long, at times emotionally fraught journey.

"The thing is, I’m not ashamed – that’s the one thing I want to say," he explains of his decision to come out. "I don't think it's wrong, I'm not devastated going through this. I'm more liberated and happy than I’ve been my whole life. I'm just happy."

As for why he's talking about this now Bass says, "The main reason I wanted to speak my mind was that (the rumors) really were starting to affect my daily life. Now it feels like it's on my terms. I'm at peace with my family, my friends, myself and God so there's really nothing else that I worry about."

i think we should let him come out in peace and let him be, there has to be so many other non-famous people who havent come out yet and would like to, but seeing all the opinions of people have forced them to stay in the closet. Why is so important to the american people who you prefer to sleep with? I think we should treat celebs as equals and let them have space. Espeacilly in a time when they really need it.

I think it is great and I hope Lance is really as happy as he deserves. He acts like a super guy and I guess my gadar was kicked in because I've wondered for a long time.  Way to go Lance. Wish it was me!
