The Gay Agenda: Get Mandisa Booted Off 'American Idol' (Check!)

When the news came out last week about 'American Idol' starlet Mandisa's connection to a proponent of the ex-gay movement, I knew that girlfriend's days were numbered. So did blogger tv-holic, who wrote 'Mandisa: No Longer My Idol.'

We ran a poll on AOL Gay and Lesbian asking if this would cost her gay votes. Here is what voters said:.

Although Mandisa was a clear front-runner and possibly had the best voice of the entire cast this season, she ended up in the bottom three on the April 5 elimination show and ... she got booted off.

Now, TMZ reports that "Mandisa's anti-gay affiliation may have done her in."

Duh.

You can't win 'American Idol' if you cross the gays. It's that simple.

Since when should a show like the American Idol become so political. I commend Mandisa to sticking to what she believes in. If you think a talent like Mandisa will not get signed by another record label, you are foolish. I am not slamming gays but what would you expect someone to say who is a born again Christian about performing a Gay event? It is time for us as Americans to stop being afraid of saying how they feel instead of being politically correct. If anyone should know this it should be the gay community.

Don't cross the gays - especially if you want to make it in music, television or film. I liked Mandisa, but am not sad to see her go after her comments. Maybe now with her free time she can discover the powerful lesbian-affirmative self within her.

Silly the Gay part doesn't matter she is just tooooooo fat to be anyones idol

Mandisa has the right to say what she feels.  I do not believe the gay community has the power to vote her off anyway.  You are talking about a lot of people voting across America.   Her song choice was not that great for her voice.   I believe that is why she did not move forward.

I do not believe for a second it had ANYTHING to do with the gay or lesbian vote.  I also do not believe the gay or lesbian vote has that much power over this competition.  Remember, it is mostly teenagers who are gathering up most of the numbers.

It is quite sad to see that when someone's opinion differ from our own, that we go on such an organized campaign to black list them.  A think Nelson Mandela said it best to American politicians in this country when he clearly told them that they cannot decide which head of states he can have amicable relationships with, i.e. Fidel Castro.

Mandissa has a right in this free country to befriend or idolize who ever she chooses and so do every other American or immigrant to this country.  She did not make derogatory remarks about anyone who lives an alternative lifestyle.   So what she associates with folks who are morons? That does not make her antigay or anti anything else.

It is clear how some people try to keep others in their "place".  They build you up only to tear you down when you don't sing their tune and dance to their drums.  Mandissa was voted off because it was her turn to be voted off.  Gay Americans and heterosexual Americans and all other classes decided it was time for her to go.  Stop perpetuating something that is NOT there.

The comment by hcharlie is rather immature and unnecessary.  What does her weight have to do with her ability to sing.  With people like you controlling Madison Avenue and Hollywood, of course she and others who are overweight won't stand a chance.  STOP THE DISCRIMINATORY REMARKS ABOUT OTHERS. Do you have talent?  Could you have made it thus far on a dog and pony show, much less a show with such appeal as IDOL?

i thought she had talent, a gift. but if you are so stupid to shun a big part of our nation she deserves to be gone.  the tide rolls in and out, for someone who is in two minority groups (fat and black) to weild such a big sword , it shows how stupid she really is.

How can less than one tenth of one percent of the population effect anything except politics?  The gay or as I like to call them, happy, people are not as numerous as they would have you believe.

EXCUSES EXCUSES ... I couldn't understand a word she sang ... her dicton, phrasing and enunciation were hideous. Even Kenny Rogers brought up her enunciaton problems but she ignored the advice and coaching ... I like black female vocalists and Mandissa is an enbarrassment to them. She should never have been on this show ... Biggest Fat Pig maybe but not this show ... Next week its a toss up, Bucky Mumble mouth or screaming off key screecher Paris ... The bottom 3 were all hideous ... the others were ok but Emett, like Fatdissa ignored the coachig and advice offered by Kenny Rogers ... STUPID ARROGANT FOOLS. But Queen songs ... they are modfied Opera ... and require enunciation and excellent phrasing ... I don't know if any of these clowns can do it.

Gay/Homosexuality is morally wrong. It's unnatural. I support Mandisa's connection against homosexaulity. The show is about talent not about her preference.

I feel like that is stupid everybody's entitled to their personal opinions why isn't she. If she doesn't want to sing at a gay event that's her biz. There's to many people out there who wonder why we down homosexuality because ya'll just can't handle the simple fact of someone's opinion ya'll really do suck because I didn't have nothing against ya'll until now. Now I know why my mom won't support ya'll.Because if someone doesn;t support ya'll then their just done so oh well I bet you she didn't come out and say she hated ya'll cause she can't because like she said she loves everybody and it don't even matter if your straight or not so get over it.

i LOVED you i am not gay or a lesbian! thank god!!!! i dont think that the gay votes will cost you do u?????

Anonymous said...

I feel as if her having connections with the ex-gay movement, might have costed her a lot of votes. But, if I were a gay or lesbian, sure I would feel offended, but the show isn't about how the contestants feel about certain issues in the world, it's about how well they sing, how well they put on a show, and if they have what it takes to be the next big thing in the music industry. Sure, I have a problem with, what she has "done",  but that wouldn't have taken part in if I would or wouldn't have voted for her.

get over it..it's HER opinion..HER life..she can do w/e she wants!

she is all idol  she rocks

Anonymous said...

I don' think that Mandisa's opinion's on gays and lebsians "done her in".  I mean, American Idol is about talent and singing abilities NOT the contestants opinions and views on current issues

Anonymous said...

I mean really now, we are all people regardless of our race, gender, nationality, religion and sexual  preference. So what Mandisa refuses to perform at gay events. She was on American Idol because she has a talent (her voice) Do i think by her making that statement she made a bad move? HELL NO!!!!!!!!  You are entitled to your opinion.

...And if Mandisa had said she was FOR gays then she would've won this competition - which is stupid. Mandisa is an amazing singer who voiced her beliefs through her songs. I give her a big thumbs-up for having such nerve. The media jumps on anyone who might have a somewhat conservative opinion - and that's not what American Idol is about. Madisa is the un-crowned idol. Deal with it!

I don't think anyone should be hasseling her about being gay. Whats the big deal? Its not like she is actually hurting anyone. If you were gay, how would you feel if the whole world knew, just because you went on American Idol?!? I am DEFINITELY NOT gay and I think that being gay is wierd and kinda' wrong, but who am I to talk!?! If you're gay don't feel bad about it!!! Oh, speaking of American Idol, Simon, you need to chill!!!! you are always giving people bad remarks about their performance!!! After the two other great remarks, here comes your bad one to make their day!!! CHILL OUT!!!

Just because Mandisa said she might not feel comfortable performing at a "gay" event, sholdn't have cost her any gay or lesbian votes. I have lots of gay friends at the university I attend but there are a few gay movements and events that even I feel uncomfortable at. If you don't have any friends that are gay and you're not used to the differences(not many) sometimes it can make people feel funny. God created every equal she just may be uncomfortable but she didn't stay ,"stay away"!

Ok I don't believe you people even think this is an issue. I mean...come on. This show is about talent. NOT ABOUT WHAT YOU BELIEVE OR DON'T BELIEVE! I loved Madisa. I can't believe she is gone and I think it is because she sang a christian song: Shackels by Mary Mary. I love that song and love that she had the guts to sing it. I think she lost votes because of it. I don't agree this dissing someone just because they have the Lord in there heart. It's a free country and we should repect people decision about things like that. I am glad she sang that. And I pray she goes really far in her career.

Immediately after it was announced that Mandisa had been eliminated, an audience member screamed out a racial slur that supported her elimination.  I find it ironic that so many people commend her for promoting her anti-gay opinion, but no one supports the racist's right to promote his opinion.  Personally, I think both people should be allowed to voice their opinions.  However, if one chooses to support prejudice and opression in America, they had better not plan on winning any popularity contest; and isn't that just what American Idol is?

I'm so tired of gays and lesbians (sorry if I'm being all inclusive, and If I'm offending anyone) preaching tolerance when they can't take anyone not agreeing with them. In doing that, they are doing the very thing they are complaining about. Those are what you call HATERS...cuz Mandisa could sing regardless of what her personal beliefs are.

To All... I am a gay man...When I say Man I mean Man... Just because of my sexual orientation doesn't mean I am not a man.  I carry myself very well and I will tell you, There are people that accept this life style and there are people that don't.  I am out but I don't flaunt it nor throw it in others faces, I am very respectfull of other people.  It does not bother me that she stated she would not perform at a gay event so be it... There is someone else who will.  Mandisa was awesome! "American Idol" "Freedom of Speech" isn't that part of America or am I in the wrong country?

Mandisa made it very clear from the git go that she was a born again Christian.   When Simon dissed her, she came back and told him that she loved him anyway, thru the blood of Jesus.  It would be against her beliefs to perform at a gay event.  Not that we as Christieans don't love the gays ( my daughter is a practising gay )  and I love her very much.  But we have to as a matter of conscious,  hate their sin.  Just as we hate any sin, but love the sinner.  Personally, as a Christian, I would  have sung if I were her, because the Lord Jesus said that we were to be light in a dark world!  If more Christians would show the gay community love, perhaps more of them would be won to Jesus thru His and our witness.  Thank you for listening, and may you always remember that Jesus Christ loved you so much that he died for you.  Debi

She is just standing up for her beliefs - thats ALL she is going - good for her!

I don't believe Mandisa was wrong for saying what she said but that's how society is for ANY ONE GROUP OF PEOPLE. That's just like if Paris was asked to perform for a group of white kids and she said no I don't agree with the way they were born. White people would stop voting for her INSTANTANEOUSLY. And that's vice versa. Let's face it, NO matter how much we beg, plead, and protest, this WILL NEVER BE A FREE-THINKING WORLD UNTIL THE WORLD IS OVER. BELIEVE THAT.
