Does
anyone else find 'The Confession' to be
a curious title for former Governor James McGreevy's new book?
What exactly is he confessing to? Being gay? His 'Brokeback'
marriage? Giving his boyfriend a job in homeland security when the man was
wholly unqualified?
'The Confession' is touted as a "story of
a life of ambition, moral compromise, and redemption." The self-penned tell-all
hits stores on September 19, the same day that the now famous "gay American"
will break his two-year public silence and appear on national TV
to confess his sins
faith alleged crimes
story to God Oprah.
The Oprah
stint will kick-off 'The Confession' tour (hey, I thought Madonna
already called that?) for which McGreevey will visit
'The Late Show With David Letterman,' the 'Today' show and 'The View', among
others.
Everyone is allowed to make mistakes and find
redemption, but I hope that we as a community will take a look at the whole
picture before any of us rush to make James McGreevey the next celebrity
spokesman for the gay cause.
His newfound affection for
truthiness is great, but just because he's gay and was in a position of power
doesn't mean he automatically gets gay hero
status.
UPDATE 9-13-06: LOGO Online reports today that James McGreevey is a likely candidate to serve as co-host on Joan River's new talk show set to launch in January. Eegod. (Logo Online, via Towleroad)

You're right. McGreevey, nor his partner, is no role model. But to get to your question, Oprah can absolve him. Will she though? Hell no! McGreevey dumped his wife-for a man. No man dumps a woman on her show and get away with it.
No one can absolve Mr James Mc Greevy's lies. He harmed his family for lying and he hired his incompetant boyfriend in a homeland security post gays should be ashamed of being represented by a liar. America is a modern country, we like gays, it is time people stop being pussies and own up to their mistakes.
The crime wasn't his being gay, it was using his position to put his boyfriend in a post that he was totally without qualifications for. I'm sure that there was somewhere other than Homeland Security he could have worked. Why couldn't the boyfriend find his own job?
I truly think Mr McGreevey was the most honest person I have seen yet to date who came out. He tried his honestly ,truly best to explain this to EVERYONE.For us who was brought up in the church espically BAPTIST he said what we feel for real out loud.So for the closet people I hope it gave them big time courage.I just thought it was a shame that with all his gifts to reach the height in his profession he had to hide the real him because of the fucked upness of the world. You can tell he is a good person he wanted both lifes. He LOVED his work but he also LOVED his true inside he couldn`t hide from.I am only glad his foolsih male friend he met did this. Now he has friends who put him around good folk so now he has meet someone to share his life with.Imagine being the Governer and saying like the hetero`s say hey can you get me some fun fot to night. That is why he was reduce to back room level.Picture this wasn`t revealed would we be saying PRESIDENT MCGREEVEY.Check his recored the people LOVE this man.Wow we could have had a GAY PRESIDENT.
I admire his courage. He faced a difficult decision and handled it with grace.
It is not easy to be a public figure and be gay, there is a large percentage of
the population that says we are okay as long as we stay in the closet and that
is not who we want to be.
