Jennifer Hudson Is Tellin' You: 'Idol' Was 'Abusive'

In an interview with Essence magazine about the show that told her she wasn't good enough, Hudson talks 'Idol' dirt: "You've been abused, misled and brainwashed to believe whatever they want you to think. You become a character ... I just knew I had to sing my way out of it ... The show couldn't take away my talent."

Does Hudson seriously think she'd have been cast in 'Dreamgirls' if it weren't for 'American Idol'? Can you say "lack of gratitude, party of one!"?

The worst offense in the interview, however, was Hudson thinking she's in a position to offer advice -- ADVICE!!! -- to Jennifer Holliday:
"First off, don't let that be the only song you're performing. Pursue other things and don't just limit yourself to that. I don't intend to say, '[OK], I'm going to sing this song for the rest of my life, and this will be the only character that I portrayed.' I'm Jennifer, not Effie. I'm flexible and different and have other dreams and other goals and songs to pursue."

Jennifer, I love you, but shut up.

Jennifer Hudson, sorry to say, is right about Jennifer Holiday: Miss Holiday-LET IT GO! Everybody else from the Broadway production went on to do extend their careers beyond that show (Sheryl, Loretta, Babatunde etc..). Jennifer didn't because she thought she could play Effie forever. While she's done other TV appearences and performed other places, she still holds on to the fact that she was Effie White and is a little bitter about not being in the film. Girl, please! You had your time, now let it go...

I think Hudson's future is singing, not acting. I loved Dreamgirls, but in a "popcorn movie" sort of way. And although I enjoyed Hudson in it, I don't think her acting was all that remarkable. If they had an Oscar for Best Singer in a Film, I would gladly support her win. But for her to actually win an acting Oscar, which seems inevitable, and especially over more deserving nominees like Cate Blanchett and Adriana Barraza, is just crazy.

I believed in Jennifer Hudson from the first time I saw her, even tho I was partial to her being from my home town and all. Jennifer deserves the awards she's getting and will continue to get. She may be alittle on the uppity side, but she beliieves in herself and that's what will continue her on to better things as well.

Well if anybody has been watching Idol over the years...it is no secret that they are abusive.  Have you watched the way they treat the people that are auditioning?  They tell one guy he looks like some sort of monster and another guy to put on a dress and go sing as a drag queen.  And they were there only auditioning.  Jennifer was there a few weeks longer so they had time to really stick it to her.   It's no secret either that Simon doesn't like 'big' woman.  He got rid of Frenchie in season two even though she had given them all relevent information about her past, then Simon started working on Kimberley Locke.  Last year it was Mandisa.   But it's funny...he never said a thing about Rubens weight...not once.

I know Jennifer said they kept trying to change her voice an d she would find herself in the bottom three.  But week after week she tried getting back  into her own style of singing until she told them she was now in Jennys' World after her performance on Weekend in New England.  Well they kicked her off that next night.  We can't have a fat woman winning Idol.  Thank goodness for Bill Condon that saw something in Jennifer.

Did you even read the article, umm where was she being disrepectful to Jennifer or AI umm sit down.

Jennifer Hudson deserves everything she is getting.  She may be blunt and straight to the point, but that is the best way to be.  She has overcome many obstacles to get where she is now.  Stop hating!!!  Jennifer is not ungrateful for being on American Idol, she is just saying that AI doesn't define her.  The judges can be very verbally abusive and break your spirit.  She is just saying that nothing was gonna stop her from fulfilling her dreams.  I loved Jennifer when she was on AI and I love her now.  She was scrutinized and talked about then and she is still be scrutinized and talked about now.  It really doesn't matter now. Jennifer has the money and the power.  Get over it.  She is going to do her thing no matter what you say about her.

Jennifer come on you know you wouldn't have been in that movie if it weren't for idol. And if you felt that way you should of walked away. But instead now you feel that you are all that, and couldn't even say thank you. Can you say ungreatful.... Grow up

Jennifer Shut UP
One song let's see what happens now. If not for American Idol who would know you

I think Jennifer is VERY talented, but her attitude is horrible and leaves ALOt to be desired.  I feel that alot of how she talks about American Idol is that she has bad feelings cuz she didnt win or maybe she feels she got cut too soon.
There is NO denying she can sing, but now that she has gotten her BIG break, she needs to humble herself just a little bit.
OH, and if she thinks she can upstage Beyonce', she's fooling herself.

This is just sad. I thought she would ahve been better than this... Better rethink your next interview. Makes me want to think twice about buying anything Jennifer Hudson..

Jennifer is not a class act.  She doesn't understand class. The fact that she didn't "pay her dues" in the acting department before winning all those "trophies" has blown her head totally out of proportion with reality.  Hollywood crewed up royally denying the incredible gifted. long time actors for an "blip" on the scene.
Well Jennifer, enjoy your moment of undeserved fame. it is all down hill for you from here.

JENNIFER STOP TALKING TRASH... YOU WOULD NOT BE WHERE YOU ARE IF NOT FOR AMERICAN IDOL.GET ON YOUR KNEES AND GIVE THANKS, NOT NASTY

Jennifer Hudson is so right about Jennifer Holliday.  She should of moved on when the play ended, but for some reason she just could let go of Effie White or her one big song.   I don't think she even tried to do anything else.  So yes, Hudson's advice was indeed warranted

Poor Jennifer....she's getting all this negative feedback for trying to make it in this crazy world. I don't think she's being arrogant about her success. She was on the Tyra Banks show and she explained about the American Idol comment. Give the girl a break. She has always praised American Idol for her success, but the girl can sing her butt off. I haven't seen the Dreamgirls movie yet, but I have seen bits and pieces on the tv. It looks like she did a wonderful job considering this is her first acting role and she sung that song. Some people don't want to see a young black woman get recognized....

Get real, Jennifer.  If you had not been on American Idol, you probably would not have been noticed and given the opportnity to try out for Dream Girls.  Yes, you do have a beautiful voice and apparantly, acting abilities.  Just don't bad mouth the show that gave you a chance.  If wasn't the judges that booted you off the show ( and I too was surprised when you left - thought you would at least be in the top three), it was the lack of votes by the public.  Your angry words about "Idol" is hurting your image.  Look how far you've come because of "Idol".  If you had won, you might not have had the opportunity to act.  Stop the mud slinging.

I can't stand Jennifer Hudson, didn't like her on Idol and was happy she was voted off...  She is arrogant and way to full of herself.  The only way she got the acting job was because she was on Idol! Now she has the nerve to kick Idol in the teeth! She has the class of a slug!

Garbage Mouth!
This is the result for people with "no class".
She thinks she is Queen of the Walk and can say and do anything.
Keep talking, Jennifer, and you will accelerate your ride to the bottom.
Oooops! I probably use too big a word ,"accelerate".

Miss Hudson is so boring, her talent is minimal and I don't care that she won an Oscar.  She didn't deserve to win.  Angela Basset should have won one by now for her work on What's Love Got To Do With It.
She is an angry woman and that just came across in her Dreamgirls role, it hardly wasn't acting.

Jennifer your stuff does stink, if not for idol, you would not be where you are. sure its rough and maybe the judges are a little (ok a lot) hard, but they do for the most give good advice, even Simon, maybe simon has the best advice, not very tactfull but for the most it is good advice. After all you are not the only one, they were hard on. Show biz is a rough and dog eat dog business, so get use to it and quit crying. Oh by the way you did not deserve the award.
