DotNets and the Millennials Will Ring Wedding Bells for Gays

Meet the DotNets and the Millennials. Cute, aren't they?

No, the DotNets and the Millennials are not an alternative indie youth band. They're the generation of Americans born between 1985 and 2004, the very people who will likely make gay marriage a reality in all 50 states of our great country.

Columnist Deb Price has an encouraging piece in the Detroit News in which she describes how the DotNets and the Millennials, according to polls, trends and studies she cites, truly will not care if gay people get married. That's big.
"Look to the 21-year-old getting ready to enter law school, the 7-year-old zipping by on a Razor scooter and the 2-year-old doing her first spin around the playground in a convertible Cozy Coupe. Their generation will, I predict, have the final say over full marriage equality for those of us who're gay -- and they'll give it an enthusiastic thumbs-up," writes Price.

One scholar at the University of Maryland's youth think tank, the Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning & Engagement (CIRCLE) says, "This youngest generation is very tolerant, a very large group, and they have turned around the voting decline in the first election in which they could vote. If you put all that together, it spells a huge change in gay rights -- and one not very far off."

Meanwhile, don't sit around and wait for the DotNets to age to critical mass. Our government is right now trying, once again, to amend the U.S. Constitution to ban gay marriage. NGLTF has an easy way to voice your displeasure to the deciders-in-power if you want to get involved. Check out Defeat the Federal Marriage Amendment.

Do you agree with me that you'll see legal gay marriage in all 50 states in your lifetime?

i'd love to see it. but i don't know if it'll happen when i'm around. there are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too many conservatives my age (25) and they don't change to liberals over night, if they change at all. so we're either gonna have to kill them all, wait for them to die out (and they live FOREVER you know! that whole being straight edge thing helps. :p), or hope some MASSIVELY, CATSESTROPIC, WAS THAT ARMEGEDDON?! event happens that makes them all change their mind.

I do agree that we will see legal gay marriage in all 50 states in our lifetimes.  I am one of the "Dotnets" and believe there is nothing wrong with homosexuals.  The new proposed amendment to the Constitution is created by conservatives who are not progressing with the times.

No way should gays be allowed to be married. Who but somebody gay would even suggest such a thing? Would you like your children seeing or watching that or hanging out with gay people? I didn't  think so or if you do then you're an idiot. Granted men are born who want to be women or women born who want to be men. That's too bad, I pray for them and for all the rest .

WHAT DIFFERENCE WILL OUR COMMENTS MAKE, SOMETIMES PEOPLE LOSE FAITH IN THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN LIFE, THEY GET CAUGHT UP ON OTHER ISSUES THAT ARE VERY WRONG FOR SOME OF  US. AND O.K. FOR OTHERS WILL OUR COMMENTS REALLY MAKE AN DIFFERENCE AT ALL. I MEAN REALLY.

Gee, that's odd.  my sons and their friends, both male and female, are totally against gay marriage and they were born between 1988 and 1992.

Hollywood trumps up these rumors without factoring in the heartland of America where traditional families matter.

I totally agree with you that Gay Marriage will be legalized in all fifty states within my lifetime, and I am 57.

Yes,since it is pushed in your face more and more, people just get used to it,the way you know there is a sky....does not mean you are any more special, just accepted by people who are new to this world.

I hope not.

I think that there should be nothing against gay marriage. Everyone may decide who to mary on their own, and ethnicity group, and sex, any person from any religion. Nobody should be judged for being homo-sexual. People should all be treated thesame, whether or not they like the same sex.

God I hope not.

I feel it will too.  "There is no gray area in equality".  That's what the CEO of savvy planners (the company I work for) says and we are a busy GLBTI owned and operated wedding company.

Our clients come from all over the world and the overwhelming comments include things about how we (America) are seen as bigots and homophobes by many in the larger, world community.  They also say that they look forward to the day when their love is just as valuable as anyone elses.

Two people, two hearts, two minds: Together.  Period.

But i guess we all have to have SOMEONE to "hate" on the planet, huh?

Sorry,  I can't see that happening before year 2015 or later.  Poliicians are all blather for gay marriages but when it comes down to count, they realize that straights will vote them out of office if they did pass on gay marriages as being legal and proper.
