Last night was men's night on 'American Idol.' It will be for the rest of this season when Katharine is eliminated this evening and checks into the Heartbreak Hotel. That's my prediction.
As the godfather of American pop music, Elvis would have loved last night's show. Elvis' fans were the most fanatical in history, and they are the bedrock that today's text-messaging 'Idol' fans are built on.
For the most part, the contestants handled Presley's material very well. Elvis has such a vast catalogue that every singer could find a song that played to his or her strengths.
Here's my quick take on what happened:
Katharine has a great voice, but she needs singing lessons. I'm serious. She can improve on her great talent, but not in time to win 'Idol.' She IS gorgeous, but if 'American Idol' is a talent show and not a beauty contest, which some of my readers stupidly accuse me of confusing (as the GAYEST editor ever, believe me, I know the difference), then she should be voted off tonight.
Taylor: Good but boring. As previously stated by me and affirmed by my pals at The Malcontent, Taylor is completely spastic. The spaz thing almost, but not quite, worked for 'Jailhouse Rock.' He'll advance to next week, however.
Elliott: He is still the man. He is, as I've said, the underdog who will surprise everyone and be one of two finalists. His version of 'If I Can Dream' revealed emotion and depth that melted my heart, and yours too, I bet, unless you don't have one. Tommy Mottola said Elliott "is real." Simon said his first song was the best performance of the night, and called his second number, 'Trouble,' the "best performance ever." Enough said.
Chris: He did well. That's all I have to say about his singing, because
Chris OWNS all three of my Gayest 'Idol' Moments this Week. Here's why:
Chris, the hunky, totally straight stud-muffin from North Carolina, is transforming into a metrosexual right before our very eyes. This is awesome. As a gay man, it makes me proud to see that our cultural influence reaches even to a married, wallet-chain wearing rocker from the Carolinas.

1.The sunglasses. Chris, you spent like $300 on those. Are they Prada? Gucci? A gift from a fan?
2. Manscaping. Chris, Chris. You clipped your chest hair. Don't think I don't notice these things. That is so ... gay ... and I mean that in a loving, positive-reinforcement way. Some athletes aside, straight guys don't shave their chests. Metrosexuals do, however. I'm glad you didn't shave your chest totally smooth. That's just wrong.

Gasps rang out in the diner where I watched Ryan Seacrest deliver the news, "Chris, you're going home." Blogger Malcontent, always on top of these things, captured the moment on video: No one seemed more stunned than Chris himself.
My take? This could actually be good for Chris' career. He wants to rock the house. That's not what 'Idol' is about. 'Idol' is about pop, something Chris struggled with all season. Chris can now leverage his newfound fame, immense fan base and music industry contacts -- and have the career he really wants.

As a full blooded southern women, let me say, Chris is a straight full-bodied, ever lovin' man. I can see how his personality, love, and "drawing" of the audience could sway a gay man his way. I actually, though, am writing as a lover of the "American Idol". How in this world could they shove Chris out when that whining Katherine clearly needed to go. I personally was in shock. I watch this show religiously, and he has always been my personal favorite. My 19 year old came home- seldom- just to watch this with me. Last night I knew it would be a hard decision. All 4 of my favorites made it. Even my 13 year old came home early to see the results. In my house, however, we are in agreement. Chris was the absolute best singer in American Idol history, and Elliot is right next to him, I so love his energy. What will happen next week? Hell I do not know if I care at this point. Yes, Chris can move on and do his thing. He has been a star from the beginning. He will be fine. I also hope something good comes out of this for all of them. They have worked real hard and did a good job entertaining millions of people each week. Actually they sure did a good job making those commercials as a team. They all have talent. i think chris got a raw deal last night. i believe he has done the best so far out of all of the contestants. he makes the songs his own. if anything this just shows that american idol is rigged just like all of the supposed "reality" tv shows. what was up with paula's reaction to the vote though? hmmm.....
I am so glad that Chis is finally gone. I was getting tired of listening to him scream out his songs. Elliott should be the next to go. He is not that great. I personally love Taylor and Katharine. I think Taylor has this one in the bag and Katarine in a close second. These two have been my favorites from the beginning and they are both still there. They both have all my votes. Taylor can not only sing he knows how to intertain his audiance. My grand-daughter even loves Taylor she does his dances and his wwwooo. She is really his number one fan. As for Katharine, she can really sing and she has one heck of a career ahead of her. We love you to Kat.

Had Chris or anyone else read it, they wouldn't have been so shocked. They aren't 100% right in their predictions, but pretty close.
And you are way off the mark on Katherine's vocal techinique. Bottom line, it was a night of ELVIS songs. These songs weren't written for women, with the exception of some of the covers Elvis himself made hits of. I want to see a night dedicated to Patsy Cline or Barbra Streisand or Celine Dion and see how the boys do. I would love to see if you would say Taylor and Elliot need voice lessons. I doubt you would. Misogyny anyone?

When I saw the only real rocker that ever showed up on AI get booted off I realised that the show is rigged. I have always hated AI from season 1 b/c of the fact of how gay pop music is and thats what AI is about. When I saw Chris audition b/c my wife likes to watch the auditions I was ready to watch the show. But when Chris was booted and Kat and Taylor(who should've got the boot a long time ago) stay on I knew it was rigged.
I for one am boycotting the show. My entire family has decided that after last night with Chris Daughtry going home, the show isn't worth watching. Hurray to the 3 contestants left standing, I wish you all the luck in the world, but Chris was unique and he owned every song he performed. I don't get it and I refuse to ever watch American Idol again and by the way my very large family and my very many friends are doing the same. I hope AI loses its ratings and the show ends.
I was shocked to see Chris go last night. However, I was even more shocked to see Ryan's lack of sympathy, and instead, his pure enjoyment when he gave Chris the boot.
Ryan is the one getting on my nerves this season. I have to take you back to the comment he made to Catherine,"Your boobs are jumping all over the place tonight!". That was a few weeks ago. IMO he should have been fired and I can't but help to think that Catherine had the opportunity to throw a sexual harrasment charge at him opposed to making nice nice with the slug.
It seems that the only one who is getting the big head is Seacrest. Perhpas he should consider a vacation and take the time to ponder what his position really is as host of the show. IMO Seacrest should get the boot. It would be worth a million just to see the look on his stupid face!

I have been a fan of yours the whole time on american idiol. But this week when you announced about your briefs. That was just alittle too much info. How dose your wife feel about that. The fame has gone to your head. Alot of pepole are saying if he gets famouse he may try to upgrade your wife. (Trade her for a new and younger girl) I see what they are talking about now. That is something that needs to be kept between you and your wife. My vote for the 1st time was changed due to the remarks. I see them just using you as a sex symbol. Not a respect singer. no one was as surprised as chris that he got voted off. he's a rocker and is great, however, not an american idol. katherine has been a disapointment, she is beautiful and is talented but not ready to be a professional. elliott is the best vocally and will be one of the final two. But Taylor is an Entertainer, and thats what American Idol is about. He rocks, he is fun and very talented. I predicted from the beginning that he had a great chance of being the ONE.

I am gay and out and from Hollywood. I know Chris is straight and I think he deserved to stay and McPhee deserved to go and I'm not writing that just because Chris is the hottest boi ever to hit the AI stage. I was at last night's taping and anyone there could tell ya McPPhee had this smug look on her face after the show, as if to tell the audience and America that of course she was safe and just put the shocked look on earlier to appear humble, something that lady ain't.
I have loved Elliott since the beginning of this season. As most of us are now capable, I could see past the bad haircut and lackluster dental attributes to the gold beneath.
He has an incredible voice. He does play his verbrato a tad bit too much sometimes but his voice still melts me everytime. I look foward to seeing his performance every week. If he leaves next week I would be hard pressed to continue watching Idol.

I agree with you on so many angles. Elliott is quietly climbing the ranks while Chris, though good, was largely flat lining. Elliott WANTS it, and he's willing to work hard, sit back from the fray and stay under the radar 'til he GETS it!
Kat needs CONNECTION lessons! She has a great voice, but she needs to make us FEEL it. I was not an Elliott fan at first, but after TROUBLE Tuesday night, I just went "wow". He GOT it. Kat did her usual ballad, but I felt like she was detached and just not all that interested in WHAT she was singing. THEN, she needs to hire yet another stylist. I seriously thought her belly was showing 'til she got closer to the camera in that 2nd outfit.
Spastic = Taylor 100%. No Question. Entertaining? To an extent. THE IDOL IMAGE? No way. But the Soul Patrol definitely has voting sway. VEGAS + TAYLOR = BIG BUCKS... He could go now and earn a good living.
Chris will not suffer the loss of AI, once he gets over his shock. He won't have the AI rules (beyond summer) and someone, I'm sure, will keep him from going back to his job in the service garage.

Okay, here's what a straight girl thinks, just cause I like to talk. I always liked Chris and was rooting for him all the way until he sang Elvis' "A Little Less Conversation". Chris' intense (neverending intense) delivery made a fun/silly/sexy song sound rough and cruel. And that's the kiss of death from the Elvis fans. Think about it -- Elvis could make you dance, make you laugh, touch your heart and bring a tear to your eye, but what he never, never did was come off as mean-spirited in any way. Elvis sang "Shut your mouth and open up your heart" and Chris turned it into "Shut your mouth and open up your legs". Too rough, too rough. So I knew right then and there that Chris would be leaving the next night. Such is life.
I think Katherine needs singing lessons, too. She's got a great voice but she just doesn't know what to do with it. Elliot has a terrific sound, but no stage presence. Taylor has an appealing sound and he's fun. So I've got to go with Taylor at this point. We'll just have to wait and see!
Chris and Katherine both have excellent voices - the range is awesome and both sing clearly -- I like both of them.
Hasn't everyone from the beginning told Taylor that he can't dance??? All he does is draw up in a ball and flex and strain his elbow-- If he has a voice I don't know it because all that CRAP he does is distracting... AND WHOEVER DARED TO COME UP WITH TAYLOR AND ELVIS LOOK ALIKE!! PLEASE!!
Now Elliot has talent. He feels what he sings, he has a strong voice and can sing with power and can sing softly whichever way he sings he has control. I don't think Chris and Kat have anything to worry about if they don't win. They both are good looking and have talent. My vote is for Elliot. I think he deserves to win.

I am rooting for Katherine. She has the looks, the talent, and the attitude to be a true American Idol. She is struggling a bit though and she needs to up her game, pronto. I can't spend all my free time voting for her!

I watched american idol for the first time last night. If the 4 singers (?) were the best i'm glad i didn't watch the previous shows. They were all rotten. was it my hearing aid?, i just got a new one $800. Do you have to be drunk at a karaoke bar to appreciate their talant? If this is the #1 show on television i'm going back to the 4 to 12 shift. Thank god for the library.

I love Taylor, his raspy voice, and his chubby body wrapped in tight pants. Compared to most of the singers
on the radio, I really don't believe any of these singers are embarrassing themselves. If the music business
were truly about 'the best voices,'- which it never was, agents would spend less time in shopping malls looking
forn talent, and more time in music conservatories. But that'll never happen.
Truth is, great singers are expected to sing great songs all the time, and every night. Imagine the stress that puts
on the voice, why Celine tends to sing less shick notes, why Whitney is MIA, and why Mariah's once incredible
range has been reduced to banal whispering and squeaks. Do you ever expect her to sing the angellic "Vision
of Love" as she once did?
If I heard Taylor was having a concert in town, I'd go, because it would probably be a fun, silly, energetic
and creative evening fror the audience. Talent matters somewhat, but Madonna proved you don't realy need it
to be an entertainer whom everyone wants to see.

Chris is the best of the best he should not have gone home. Taylor makes you sick to look at him, his body actions do not go with his looks he just looks strange. Cut the dance and he still wouldn't be the American Idol for me.

I think whoever didnt vote for Chris was completly stupid...he's the best there is.. people are so crazy these days...just because he loves to make songs stand out...doesnt mean you have to vote him off jus because he wants to be hisself. He tried his hardest and if you ask me he is SO going to become a legend one day. Well he already is. I will say this: Chris has proven his true colors ever since that remark about his panties. That was so presumptiously arrogant my jaw totally dropped, and Ryan's reaction was perfect. Subsequent to Chris's own jaw dropping when he got the news, he has been flapping it incessantly in one interview after another demonstrating what a conceited, self-centered tool he is. "Everyone expected me to win," "Ryan was cold," "My fans thought I saw safe and didn't vote," etc. Pal, your fans voted. Your problem was that your fanbase was smaller than you thought, and didn't grow as the field narrowed. Elliott clearly picked up some new voters in the past couple of weeks. Kat is losing ground only due to poor performances (and that's gonna catch up with her this week unless she does the miraculous perfect night).
But you, smug boy, have been in decline for awhile, you just didn't know it until now. Do anyone think Chris picked up Paris voters? Mandisa voters? Bucky voters? Kellie voters? Kevin voters, for Pete's sake? Neither do I. Buh-bye Mr. Over-confident. Hubris, thy name is Chris Daughtry.
It also bears mentioning that Chris thought it was a great compliment that some fans are threatening to boycott the show because of him. Dude, here's your proper response:

Elliott looks like a convict or common jail prisoner. Not an American Idol! You know I'm right. I don't think his singing is all that great, either.
It's too bad Chris was voted off, but that's what happened, so get over it & move on.
Katherine is trying & showed she can be up to the challenge with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". However, she's not consistent.
With all that said, Taylor has interest, showmanship and talent. He should be the new American Idol & with all taken into account, he will be.
I totally lost all interest when Chris was sent home..no way he had the fewest votes..Chris will make more records than anyone of these three idols.Chris rocks!!!!!!
I hate that people are always so quick to judge others. Yes, I know that its ok to voice your opinion. But, you all get what you deserve when you pst judgement. Gay or not he is God's Child. We all have are own choices to make in life. Remember to put yourself in someone elses shoes and never be quick to make judgement upon someone else. God only knows what he thinks of all of us.
I think it is really sad that Chris got voted off for once in the show they finnally got the best american idol ever and they voted him off i find it hard to beleive he was voted off every week i voted for him at least tried but could never get through to vote lines where always busy i think it was set up. ot of the last four Chris was the best. taylor should off been voted off day one . chris is my american idol and noe he's gone the show is over for me. the rest off them stink and not worth watching anymore Chris is the reason i kept watching the show. He has the best talent i have seen yet on the show along with Kelly from the first American Idol. I will be looking for Chris out on cd soon. Yeah it was said Chris got kicked off. I love him. But the good thing is that I know someone is going to grab him up very quickly. His voice is needed out there in the music world. As for the others, I had started leaning towards Eliott but on the show that aired lastnight, Katherine really blew me away with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Simon was right, that was the best vocal this season. She may win this after all!!

It is ludicrous to even hint that Chris Daughtry is GAY! IIIIII am gay and I know that he is not. He is a married man. Even though I am praying for Taylor to win, I cannot deny Chris' incredible talent. He has a long, successful career ahead of him. The "reasons" for Chris' so called "gayness are idiotic. Chris getting voted off made my jaw drop to the floor, I really thought it would be Taylor and Chris neck to neck in the end. Katharine and Elliot? Only reassures me more that Taylor will win.

I love how everyone is all outraged that the editor called Chris gay, when he was simply saying that he had "gay moments" this week. We all know he's married, he just appeared to have some superficial homosexual qualities, which is just what this editor was trying to say.
