In an AIM Interview with AOL Music, actor and musician Jared Leto typed these words into AOL Instant Messenger:

Wow. Is he for real?
I only ask that because:
A) Leto has dated some of Hollywood's leading women. On the other hand, so did Montgomery Clift and scads of other Hollywood hotties who were gay.
And B) It seems like such an off-the-wall moment to tell the whole world he loves men.
Leto, who twice has been named one of PEOPLE magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People, is on tour with his band, 30 Seconds to Mars, and he has a new album coming out: 'A Beautiful Lie.'
So is his coming out a "beautiful lie" to garner some publicity, or a real-life moment? My straight-guy writing partner and I chatted aboutit today in our column, Straighten Out. I wanted to get a straight guy's take on the story. He thinks Jared's coming out is great for straight guys, and the reason is, well, typical for a straight guy.
Personally, I think it would be very cool to add Jared Leto to our gay ranks, but whether Leto is really gay or not, I almost don't care. Why? Because if he is gay, he's said so. If he's not, he obviously doesn't care if people think he is.
Either way, Jared Leto's so-called coming out makes me grin ear to ear.

Yes, he was in Panic Room. And American Psycho, Girl Interrupted, Alexander, Fight Club, and a bunch of other films. He has a new movie coming out, Chapter 27.

i heard they're very into each other. it's great to see jared be so free about his relationships.
First of all let me correct your mistake, "A Beautiful Lie" has been out since Aug. 2005. And that is quiet a shocker that he says hes gay, i would of never guessed!

The CD has been out for months. Since last year actually. I don't want to be attacking but your facts should be straight.
Also, for Jared's joking antics to be taken so seriously is crazy. Jared has no problem with the gay community (obvious from a certain movie role or two) but he's just not gay.
He turned to joking about it when the conversation started to steer towards his lovelife which is a topic he really hates discussing.
Is he gay? No. Was he joking? Yes. When did A Beautiful Lie come out? Like, August 30th of last year. O_O

If he is just joking, I don't think playing the 'gay card' is exactly fair. Can't he come up with something a bit more shocking? Does anyone really care what sex he's sleeping with? And furthermore, just how serious are geese?

Unfortunately, being gay, looking gay, acting gay... seems to be the latest "In Craze"... everyone's saying they're gay, or bi, or have had some sort of "same sex" encounter - to try and get in step with what appears to be trendy. I mean, seriously, whatever happened to be discreet... cherishing privacy. Straight... Gay... what goes on in one's own bedroom between consenting adults - should stay there.
