Gay Unions in N.J. = New York = Everywhere Else?

Jonathon Feit, editor in chief of the soon-to-launch marriage magazine With This Ring, writes in an op-ed for AOL Gay and Lesbian that last week's same-sex union decision in New Jersey "will reverberate, because [America's] heart resides just yonder, east over the Hudson River."

His premise: The New Jersey decision (along with Feit's prediction of Elliot Spitzers' N.Y. gubernatorial victory) will have a domino effect for a similar win for gay unions/marriage in New York. And once gay unions/marriage happen there, he says, it can happen anywhere because "what happens there eventually winds its way to everywhere else."

Is he right?

I have a sister who is currently raising four children in a Kansas suburb, surrounded by her husband's entire family.

If I were to show up at her house and announce that where New York City goes, the rest of the country eventually follows, I'd be tarred and feathered in K.C. Masterpiece BBQ sauce and left out by the side of the road.

I prefer to believe that the country naturally leans in the direction of civil rights.  The abolitionist movement, suffrage, the battle for civil rights in the 60s, and today's push for gay equality have all suffered setbacks, but so far, we've always done the right thing ... eventually.  I think we'll receive the same happy fate, and that it'll just take time and energy on our end to make it happen.

What if you're the only gay in the village?

Watch this hilarious video I YouTube'd as a tribute to the very funny TV comedy sketch show, 'Little Britain'.

Glad to have found your journal by the way, as we don't have one like this in the UK...

I look forward to being able to marry the guy I fall in love with. I look forward to raising kids and growing old. Some people just have a hang-up on who I marry even if I am in love with him. They also have an issue with me raising kids even though the kids are being left in foster homes. Are straight people just afraid of gay people and what they might be or what their kids might become. I think it's decided by genes and I hope we can get beyond this irrational fear.

Being gay is unatural. Leagalizing gay marriages would be unatural! I personally live in a state that will not leagalize gay marriage. Thank God!

YOU HAVE TO BE OPEN-MINDED. WHETHER THEY LEGALIZE OR NOT MARRIAGES FOR GAY PEOPLE THEIR GOING TO GET MARRIED ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE DO WHEN THEY MEET THAT SPECIAL PERSON AND FALL IN LOVE AND BE HAPPY..........GET MARRIED, WHICH MOST OF YOU WISH YOU HAD.  BY THE WAY, THERE'S CRIMES OUT THERE LIKE PEOPLE SELLING DRUGS, THUGS, RAPIST, PREDETORS, ECT, THAT YOU SHOULD BE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT. LIVE AND LET LIVE.
