Pentagon Goes Too Far on Gays
Call me crazy, but the I think the U.S. military is losing it. Big time.
A document has surfaced in which the Pentagon says that gay people have a "mental disorder." It puts gays on a list of those with "defects." Others on the same list include people with mental retardation and personality disorders.
People, the significance of this Pentagon document is huge. Our own government is ignoring what mental health experts established more than 30 years ago when the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexuality from its list of mental disorders. Our own government is sliding back the clock to a time when gays were labeled as sick.
You may recall that Hitler's Third Reich called homosexuality "degenerate behavior" -- and sent gays to concentration camps. Why? Because gay men were enemies of the state. In 1936, Hitler's government created an office called the "Reich Central Office for the Combating of Homosexuality and Abortion," whose job included compiling lists of (and later persecuting) its gay citizens.
Scholar Jack Nusan Porter cites and sources the following as one of the main reasons why Hitler didn't want gays in the military -- or anywhere else:
"Hitler's misgivings about homosexuality stemmed primarily from self-interest. His objection to it as a vice or symptom of effeminacy was only secondary. The main danger, as he saw it, was that it would infiltrate the political leadership and constitute itself a secret Order of the Third Sex." Hans Peter Bleuel [Sex and Society in Nazi Germany, New York: Lippincott, 1973]
Did you catch that? Hitler was afraid gay people might rise in the ranks. Maybe that is what our own military is afraid of -- not gays in shower rooms and barracks, as is so often cited. (Read: Give me a break.)
Does it seem like a stretch to link the Pentagon's actions with those of Hitler's government? I really don't think it is. While Canada, Belgium, France, Britain, Germany and a list of other nations are welcoming gays into their military ranks, our government codifies gays as sick. So tell me: Could the creation of a "U.S. Office for the Combating of Homosexuality" be far off? Maybe not.

The other nations may be accepting of gays in the military, but are they fighting anywhere? As far as I can tell the US and its coalition forces are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan ... and other hot spots. I would surmise a gay person could be just as brutal as one has to be to kill another. It would be interesting to get some stats on this.

I am a former Army Captain who was deployed to the Persian Gulf during the first gulf war in 1991. My commander new I was gay at the time, although I did not tell, and yet I was good enough to go to war. I think the pentagon uses the "gay card" when it is to their advantage.
The military also ignores other psychiatric disorders when it is to their advantage. Many people returning from the Gulf suffered Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other Depression based psychiatric problems and they were ignored out of fear of having to pay disability related compensation.
The military is a very dysfunctional system, it always was and I am afraid it always will be as long as people with archaic and closed minded thought are in charge.

I don't know what causes homosexuality, or if there are many causes. I do think it is abnormal, although I don't think we should treat gays differently.

Personally I think that it is wonderful that the Pentagon has nothing else to worry about other than if gay people are RETARDED as they put it or not. The world must be a real safe place to live in if that is all they have to deliberate over. Wow....and I thought we still had military troops all over the world that we should have to worry about. They must have all come home. The fuel prices must have dropped significantly so that it doesn't put a burdon on people anymore. I know it's difficult to accept that you might have any type of disorder, especially if that disorder has anything to do wth your brain. But, it is a fact, that homosexuality is a type of mental disorder. There are chemical in your brain that desire the same sex. There are many people who have various mental disorders and are very intelligent and preporous. The question that I present to those individuals who are homosexual is why not you?

I agree with the pentagon that Homosexuality is a mental disorder. No where has any scientific proof come about showing that homosexuality is natural. Now I'm not saying that Gay people can chose to be gay anymore then a child born with down syndrome chose to have to have it. What I am saying is homosexuality is not a normal varient to natural behavior. I'm sorry but nature has shown us that there needs to be a male and a female. I'm currently in the Army and I have a pretty good guess on some servicemembers who might be gay. However thy conduct themselfs proffesionally and unless you really dug into their personal buisness, you would never know. Going back to the original argument, is Homosexuality an abnormality? YES! Can we be civil and respect people anyway? YES! But Calling a CAT a DOG because it makes you feel beter inside does'nt mean the CAT is a DOG.

Our nation's founding fathers formed this nation on Godly principals. However, for many years now, we have consistantly walked away from them. We've taken prayer out of schools, and grades dropped.
