Alert the Media: Pope Issues No Apology to Gays

In an almost unprecedented turn of events, the pope today gathered Muslim leaders and diplomats to his fabulously decorated summer home as an apology of sorts for remarks he made almost two weeks ago in which he referred to Mohammed and Islam as "evil and inhuman."

I say "of sorts" because, of course, he didn't come right out and, you know, say "I'm sorry." It was more like, "Why don't you stop by and let's all be friends?"

My question is, when will the gays be invited? Pope Benedict XVI has been equally accusatory of gays being an evil force, if not worse.

The pope, named 2005's Anti-Gay Person of the Year, has made gay men and lesbians one of the top targets of his papal career. Just four days prior to his anti-Islam gaffe, the pope told a group of Canadian bishops, "In the name of 'tolerance' your country has had to endure the folly of the redefinition of spouse, and in the name of 'freedom of choice' it is confronted with the daily destruction of unborn children."

He has said that "homosexual acts go against the natural moral law.”

Where is our gay outrage? When he attacked Islam, Muslims around the world rose up, protesting his statement at rallies and burning him in effigy. Should we be doing the same? At the very least, the team of men who design the pope's wardrobe should go on strike. Like they're not gay! And who does Benedict think dreams up the Prada shoes and Serengeti sunglasses he loves to sport?

Seriously though, if you think for a minute that the pope's words don't matter, think again. Blogger Doug Ireland posted an entry less than a month ago calling this past summer 'Italy's Summer of Anti-Gay Violence.'  This isn't a coincidence, people.

By casting gays as immoral, as people who are trying to undo the "sanctity of marriage," the pope uses a very powerful world microphone to, de facto, call open season on gay men and lesbians.

So, again, we can expect an apology when?

If God made man in his image, might God not be gay?  The Pope and other bible thumping homphobics should think about that   If the Pope feels the need to constantly apologize to the Muslims, why doesn't he become one.

if the declaration of independence states all man are created equal , that means gays also. including woman that are gay. some of us are still in the closet and afraid to come out. i myself is in the closet because i am married. we all suould have equal right no matter who we are or what we stand for.it is hard enough to get what people want in life.he needs to work on his house with his people going after someone when they are young and inocent kids. if they are gay and hiding it they need go go after their age group.

   please excuse my spelling

Don't be silly. The Pope is unable to apologize for preaching biblical truth as he sees it or as it is revealed to him. My understanding about the Muslim situation was that he said he was sorry for their reaction. How can he be sorry for mentioning that someone said Muslims can be mindlessly violent when the reaction was mindless violence? Gays are free to do what they believe is right. Don't try to silence those who say they believe otherwise. My experience has been that those who expect the most tolerance are often the least tolerant themselves.

You will never get an apology for saying the truth; never!   Why is it that gays think they can jump on any wagon to broadcast and attach their unnatural and immoral behavior and comparison such to all issues such as marriage.  The pope is the Vicar of Christ, visible leader of the Christian Church, his role is to lead and teach the Gospel; the Truth.  Therefore, gays are as he stated and no apology should be made for speaking the Truth.  I am sick and tired of gays using every issues to attach theirs.  Goodness!  Get over it!  You cannot make a wrong; right!   So, live with it as others do when they are living in sin.   Stop trying to shove your sin down our throats.  We have our own sinful ways to deal with -- yours is yours.!!!!!!

I guess this is a joke. The Pope never said anything against Muslims. You are taking a quote out of context. You can't expect the Pope to say gays are not threatening society. First of all, He's the Pope, not the ACLU. Second he's right, we all know that gay couples are bad for society, and especially bad for the children people like Rosie O'donnell are trying to raise.

The pope Will never apologize to gays.  The Catholic Church has been co-opted by the ruling elites and has taken on the task of distracting us from the issues of social justice that permeate the Bible.  The Catholic Church would have us believe that gays are the root of all evil in the world--not those who start wars, torture, or press the poor, and degrade the environment.

Your post is ridiculous!  Catholics do not believe gays are the root of all evil; so stop it!!!  As a Catholic, I am taught how to live according to Christ, to love all - unconditionally.  You are taught through association that catholics hate gays; which is a lie.  I do not see people by classification, I see people as creations of God --  all the same and in His Image.  Therefore, and most importantly, you see yourselves in a way that is contrary to the teachings of Christ, prefer to accuse Christians for not accepting homosexuality which is a sin just as all other immoral sexual acts, and are making an assertive effort to attach your desires to that of all forcing your way onto that of others.  Why? I think it is ridiculous for gays to use whatever floats in their way to point out what is so contrary to nature with the expressed mission to make sinful behavior the same as godly behavior.
Why?

I enjoyed your story about the gay-bashing prejudice in that airline.

As a straight Christian, I can assure you, Ken, that there are a lot of people who DON'T hate gays.

Now, am I saying that sexual misconduct (adultery, fornication, homosexuality, etc.) is right? No.

In fact, as a straight person, I am sure that we have just as much difficulty staying out of trouble as a gay person. (After all, the straight urges are biological and, in most cases, probably stronger and more difficult to resist -most, I say, as there are exceptions.)

Anyhow, if you google me, you will discover I write on a wide range of topics, including health and diet, in the hopes that my fellow citizens will be healthier and happier.

God didn't make junk: You can do it, and after my own complaints to God, he reminded me that another person checked out "being human" and was able to avoid 100% of sin, and that the human DNA model he used for my body was therefore not a defective model. (Or else how would that "other" guy have been able to live a sinless life.)

Not preaching, and don't be offended, but I want to point out that if even WE can't make a Wooly Mammoth or a Tyrannosaurus Rex, how in the heck could it have gotten here on it's own!? (God, not evolution, because ----because ----because evolution, per the Second Law of Thermodynamic, e.g., entropy, always goes downhill on the long run.)

OK, I'm of my soapbox. I hope I have offered some modicum of assurance that no, there is not a revolt to kill gays. If we did that, a whole lot of adulterers would be in line -and ahead of you. You know what's right and wrong, and right will win in the end, so be patient, but both God and man are not out to get you; Things will be ok, if you listen to your inner voice and do your part.

OK, peace out.

the pope's right: according to his religion- christianity- gays and lesbians are sinners.  everybody is a sinner, but being gay or lesbian is A SPECIFIC sin.  it is just like stealing, murdering, cursing, using gods name in vain, rape, and all that stuff.  And this is true.  The penis goes in the vagina- plain and simple, and if gay people dont like the truth emanating from his mouth, thats simply their problem.  He doesnt say anything his religion doesnt say- hes just preaching it, as he is the pope.  i applaud him for that.  we shouldnt live in a satanic world where sin is realized as normal, accepted, and even protected. this is the case with homosexuality.  the thing that bugs me the most, though, is gay people trying to attack the pope.  he is a living person, preaching god.  and people shouldnt dare to slander the almighty god and his son, jesus christ.  because hell is a whole lot worse than being cast down for doing a sin.  i do have to say, though, as he is a christian, he should follow another example of christianity- forgiveness. for as jesus says, he who is forgiven, i will forgive.  he who denys forgiveness to someone, i will do the same in denying them into heaven.  so he has a point in chastising them; but ultimately, he should forgive.  they need to know, though. be a christian. stop being gay. and plus, it isnt true love: its PERVERSION, AND ITS WRONG.  its been that way since humans have existed.

someone on this, about 7 or 8 comments down, mentioned that they thought god might be gay.  God is not gay.  I know that.  Because it is mentioned in the Bible, in Genesis, among other books of the bible, that God does not and cannot have any evil or sin in him... he is perfect.  It also says that homosexuality, gays and lesbians are sinners.  So how exactly could God be gay? oh, yeah the bibles also written by God, and the disciples that hung out with Jesus when he was on earth- so yeah, its not falsely written either.  So why exactly did she write that?  did she not have anything more intelligent to say, or was it that she simply couldnt defend being homosexual, even though her perverted impulses compel her to be one?  Don't worry, girl, we are all sinners.  Although you are forgiven by us Christians- as God asks us to forgive- I say it again: we owe you no apology for what is clearly stated by God and Jesus, and also do NOT EVER slander God again.  What is wrong with you?  And when it says humans are made in gods own image... well, it means spiritually, you crackhead.  obviously humans cant be everywhere like god can. it just means that we were made to have the freedom of thought- animals dont have that, really, just instincts- and we can choose to go to heaven.  NOW I KNOW UR GONNA TRY TO SAY WELL IF WERE IN GODS OWN IMAGE, HOW COME SOME OF US ARE GAY?? well, lets see... IF UR SACRELIGIOUS ASS HAD READ THE BOOK OF GENESIS FOR MORE THAN A WORD OR TWO, YOU WOULD SEE HOW EVE TRICKED ADAM INTO EATING A FRUIT FROM THE TREE OF KNOWLEDGE- THAT BROUGHT IN SIN.  that is where we arent sinless anymore- satan got ahold of us now.  its up to us to beg jesus to come into our hearts and forgive us.

Not only is homosexuality prohibited by the Bible, Homosexuals are constantly trying to convince the rest of the world that it is not unusual or destructive. The mere fact that homosexuals make up around 6% of the population, it is no wonder why gays are constantly trying to normalize it. They simply want more sexual partners. The mere fact that gays cannot reproduce clearly demonstrates homosexuality as an aberration and unnatural.

THE POPE DOES NOT APOLOGISE FOR WHAT HE SAYS. HE SAID HE'S SORRY THEY WERE OFFENDED.  HE DOESN'T WISH TO OFFEND ANYONE. HE GOES BY THE TEACHINGS OF THE CHURCH & BIBLE. THE POPE CONDEMNS NO ONE..IT'S BETWEEN US & GOD..

why should he apologize? I don't see any Muslims apologizing for 9-11. I don't see terrorists apologizing , I don't see Madonna apologizing for offending Catholics, Oh I forgot its ok to bash Christians, but free speach is only allowed when we are not speaking of Jews, Muslims, Mexicans, Blacks, or any thing other than White Christians, [[[[[[Reverse racism))))))

Did the Pope consider the many priest who got caught for child molestation. Is that not even worst than me going out with another man and being productive in society. Why did the church even keep it as a secret ? Was it not to scandalize the Catholic church?

Anonymous said...

The Pope should not apologize to the gay and lesbian community.  The Pope did not actually apologize to the Muslims.  The truth about the Muslim Extremists are that they are a violent and hateful people intent on the destruction of Christianity and Judaism.  The Pope is considered by the Catholic community to be the Holy Father and an influential leader of the Catholic Church.

I am not Catholic, but I respect the Pope for his stance in upholding church dogma and the fact is that homosexual behavior is incompatable with the Christian faith.  He owes nothing to these people except compassion.

If he owes an apology, then Billy Graham, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and a large crowd of other ministers would also.  The church has succeeded for over two thousand years by maintaining certain tenets of the religion, not by adopting the current views of the populace.  To alter the position of the church every time public opinion shifted, the church would fail and the forces of evil would conquer the forces of the righteous.

If the gay community is unhappy with their religion, find another that meets their standards.  Don't try to change the religion for the majority of people to meet the desires of a few.

On behalf of the Catholic Church, I am offering an apology to gays and am giving more information on the official Catholoic stand on gays. The Catholic Catechism says "2358 …They (homosexuals) must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided." An argument in support of gay civil unions is that since the civil union does not mention sexual activity, then the civil union is sanctioning a committed loving relationship and if committed, loving relationships between people of the same sex are immoral, then all religious orders of people of the same sex must be banned. The Catholic Church continues to say that gay sexual unions are immoral, but to single out gay sex in this flood of sexual impurities is a disgrace, especially since many gays are not even Catholic, and, as non-Catholics, cannot possably be expected to be held accountable for knowing what a grave matter is and, consequently cannot be considered in mortal sin. The pedophile priest scandal is yet unreasolved, as the Church is disgracing itself further by pretending that legal manuvering is a way of making amends.  I am a heterosexual and celibate Catholic in good standing and as a servant of the Blessed Virgin, am obedient to the Blessed Virgin in fighting Catholic corruption. "Conservative Catholics" add insult ot injury by declaring themwselves "Good Catholics" (which alone is a disgrace) who want to "get the sinners" Anyone who has to gall to declare himself a "good Catholic" should learn how to do an examination of conscience and get your own butt to confession. And "good Catholics" want to out gay priests? Are they going to hear their confession? I never thought I would see the day when conservativwe Catholics would disgrace the Church more than the Jesuits. *I* am a conservative, traditional Catholic and please do not associate me with these mad dogs.

Evil begets evil.. That being said, people who suffer for choosing an evil course shouldnt be surprised when evil comes back upon them.. Sin is sin.. there are those who admit they have sinned and repent in JESUS name from sin.. And there are those who desire to manipulate society for sin to be tolerated and justified.. JESUS is true and one day all shall see him as saviour or as thier judge.. Trufully it doesnt matter what the pope says, what matters is what God says.. For those who truly know JESUS they know the popes isnt of GODS Will but rather a deciever, a pawn of the devil.. Those who ar blind cannot see how the papacy with its bloody history utterly rejects the true gospel.. As far as Islam as JEsus said you shall know a tree by its fruit wether it be evil or good.. God has revealed Islam is evil.

1Jo 2:21  I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and know that no lie is of the truth.
1Jo 2:22  Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He who denies the Father and the Son is antichrist.

Islam teaches God has no SOn.. thus according to Gods word ISlam is a lie, of the antichrist..

Are sure that the Pope said that exactly or like the Islam comment was it taken out of context.  The Islam fundies should really read/listen to what is said and not go off on some fundie tangent tring to stir up discontent amoung people who are essentially ignorant to start.  Oh yes the pope should say "i'm sorry to both gays and the islamic people that one should be "i'm sorry that you are too stupid to understand the difference between a direct statement and a quote from a guy dead for 1000 years.

This has been my outrage for a while now.  How this man and the Roman Catholic Church get away with their hateful condemning words about gays is unbelievable to me!

The church in my opinion is at the root of all societal gay/lesbian discrimination"!!!

What can we do, how can we show our outrage in numbers, create worldwide awareness?

I propose this; and I am not savvy in the ways of law, but if the ACLU is reading this, or any one else willing to step up to the plate for that matter;  How about Filing a Class Action Defamation of Character suit against the Pope and/or the Roman Catholic Church, in the name of us all!  Get it out there in legal terms, and sue this ignorant man for recklessly condemning people based on ancient superstitious beliefs.

How many gay/lesbian teens have committed suicide because of his words?  How many gays and lesbians in general, have suffered in their families, in society, all because of ignorant teachings and preachings!

With great power comes great responsibility, and it's time that the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church was held accountable on this major point as well!

Fuck rue pope He's probably a pedafile as well as the rest of those sick fucks. The church needs to recognize that it is thei rstand on celibacy that created "good" Catholic boys to hide in the priesthood to not deal with their homosecuality until they finally loose it. No human being is meant to be celibate. Sex is a gtft & a wonderful humsn interaction. These men have a delaved sexuality due to all the fucked up catholix teacings. So whrn they finally can"t handle it anymore they are attracted tu youg boys-the same age they stopprd threir own sexual devrelopment to be "good Catholisc'.

Next to George "Idiot" Bush, this man is one of the most dangerous men in the world.  He's just a "man."  He wasn't "delivered to us by God."  Man made God up in an attempt to understand what is non-understandable.  Our brains nor our spirit can fully comprehend our maker.  Thus, we have made up stories in the Bible to help us try to understand.  This is utter nonsense!  This "pope" is a fallible human being who does not deserve the power he has, nor the adoration of his "pilgrims" who ultimately fell for this quack.  He is a common and greedy crook.  Popes are some of the most corrupt human beings on our small world.  Do the research! Yes, believe it or not, the guy is a human being - plain and simple.   Like all of us - we (and he) will know at the exact moment of our (his) demise that there is a loving, divine presence in the universe that created us and it WASN'T the vindictive god that says "it's my way or the highway" - to make it simpler for you simpler folks.  All of human suffering can be attributed to "organized religion."  It's a terrible, terrible thing.  Wars are fought over it.  Millions have needlessly died because of "religion."  Though, I understand that people need to believe in something greater than themselves.  Our textbook upbringing on "God" has led to unbelievable bloodshed this world over.  Is this your all-loving God?  Not mine.  Just practice love for your fellow human beings, do good in the world and you will be okay.  Simplistic message - though one I believe is true.  We're all Jesus, Buddah and the Wizard of Oz!

The pope has an obvious P.R. problem and in the spirit of Christian teaching has failed the gay/lesbian/bisexual/trangenderedcommunity....this coming from a former Nazi-Youth in his formative years.  The pope has serious personal issues to deal with and obviously is NOT the voice of the people.
